At long last after what seems a lifetime The Intrepids had a day out together. Last time we all met was in May when we visited Doune Castle. Yes it was top be another castle, Floors Castle as suggested by a Facebook friend Alex Latta. We set on in nice sunshine from Livingston at 10 am and arrived at the castle car park just before 12 noon.
As usual we headed for the nearest cafe to get our bacon sandwiches/ rolls and tea/coffee/chocolate. If we are successful in getting a bacon roll/sandwich the venue gets an automatic gold star, yes the Courtyard Restaurant got that star. I can recommend the food there, and also the service the staff were very helpful, as indeed they were throughout the castle. Having finished our repast we made our way through the grounds of the castle heading towards the gardens and plant centre. To get there we had to walk in front of the main entrance of the castle.
After a nice stroll we entered the first of the gardens “The Millennium Parterre”. The design needs to be seen from a height to really appreciate the layout. (see here). Then onto the plant centre to walled garden.

It is surprising how quickly time flies when you are meandering among flowers and gardens, before we fully realised it time had flown and it was now 16:45 and the castle grounds were closing. We had walked from the gardens down to the back-end of the castle and back to the main car park, we then had to make our way back to the plant centre where Sid had moved his car. In all we had a great wee visit to the grounds, next time we shall visit the castle itself.
